AVAILABLE NOW – UPDATE #5!
The World in Conflict Team is proud to announce the release of Update #5.

This fifth update fixes some bugs and balancing issues, but also introduces several brand new features, including a feature that prevents team stacking. This feature, which is completely optional server-side, divides players equally between the two teams in the beginning of every match based on their experience and skill.

For more details about this feature, please see this interview with lead game designer Magnus “Soundboy” Jansén.

As always, the update will be downloaded and installed when you connect to Massgate, or you can go here and download it manually.

Have fun!

MASSIVE VS WiC HEAVEN
Tomorrow Massive will play a 5v5 match against WiC Heaven! The match will take place at 18:00 CET, and will be played on Hometown.

Read more about it here and here.

CHANGE TO LEADERBOARD
We have changed the player ladder a bit. Prior to changes we summed the score of your 20 best games the last 7 days and used this for ladder score.

We have now increased the time to 21 days. This means that the score of your 20 best games over the last 21 days is used as ladder score.

You can read the announcement here.

WiC inCUP
Team Excello won the sixth inCup tournament yesterday, fourth time in a row! You can read WiC inCup coverage (in German) from the fifth inCup here – keep an eye out for coverage from inCup #6 (including replays).

The seventh inCup takes place on Sunday December 23rd! Follow the line-up on the tournament page. The tournament sticky on massgate.net is also updated regularly.

PRAISE
The CEO of Activision Blizzard Bobby Kotick thinks WiC is a “fantastic product that doesn’t get the attention it deserves”.

Hooked Gamers chooses WiC as one of the top 5 PC games of 2007.

So does IGN - Since launch, developer support for WIC has been outstanding – multiple patches have tweaked the few bugs and balance issues that the game shipped with. Its instant access online game, a unique feature that makes it more like a shooter than a strategy game, has proven to be a big success.

DN chooses WiC as one of the best games last year (Swedish).

Fragland gives WiC 92.4% in their review.

WiC TOURNAMENT ON AUSTRALIAN LAN
On January 26-27 it’s time for the Australian event Reloaded. Don’t miss the 5v5 WiC tournament with a $5000 cash prize! You can find the tournament rules here.

CLAN SPOTLIGHT AT GAMEREPLAYS
On GameReplays you can find the ongoing event Clan Spotlight. K1ck eSports Club is one of the hottest WiC clans at the moment, and here you can read all about them! Clan leader EnergetiC expresses his view on WiC as a competitive game.

MASSIVE AT DREAMHACK WINTER 2007
The tournament at Dreamhack was won by K1ick eSports Club, congratulations! You can watch a movie from the finals on GamingEye.

Some more photos can be found here.

Nice with solving the stacking problem !
...But why did you INCREASE the HAA range !!!
...And DECREASED the firingrange of the HeavyAttackHeli !!!

Apart from that you did a good work again with the patch...

That auto balance seems pretty communist to me! hehe, anyway great work. If WIC does not get game of the year I am going to quit my job and live under a bridge because all that is true and honorable will be dead to me!

Update 5 seems to make it unbalanced with air

air has pretty much no chnace now, as medium and heavy aa own them to easy.
medium air might be ok hunting infantry but heavy is useless when used agist equal opponents.

buffing 1 and nerfing the other = too much

At first, I was pretty impressed that the CEO of a rival, unrelated company (and Activison, of all publishers!) named WiC one of the most underrated games of the year.

And then I watched the interview.

I did not know that Vivendi had bought Sierra.

Still a great game. Just needs more interesting maps to get the viral marketing really going (working on that- stupid day job).
Space needle is nice and all, but to sell it to our friends, RTS games usually focus on more novel landmarks than generic US hometown #2 and siberian wasteland #3.
Switzerland would be interesting. So would the north pole (speaking of christmas map contests...), Venice, Golden Gate bridge, etc. Wherever tourists went in the 80s (plus Red square).

Vivendi was the parent company of Sierra, they did not purchase Sierra recently, I think you're getting confused with the recent merger between Vivendi / Sierra (who are pretty much one and the same in the game world) and Activision.

In regards to the recent merger;

Quote
The deal sees Vivendi contributing their games division (valued at $8.1 billion), plus $1.7 billion in cash for a 52% stake in Activision Blizzard - making the total transaction valued at US$18.9 billion.
